I'm Not the Best Writer But I Put Away My Grocery Cart By Shealy (Sherry) Healy

Watching Joyce Myers TV

Ethical Behavior

I am sitting and watching television-being lazy. Joyce Meyers is awake and on the television-I am happy. She is a role model to me. I am not a woman who practices religion giving a name to one God. But, I do put my grocery cart away. I always have. While growing up with a single mom who worked hard to maintain a semi-above poverty lifestyle-I was taught to do what was right. I was taught this without the mention of any religion at all. I did have an aunt who practiced Pentecostal spirituality. But, that was all I really knew of religion. Those who know anything about the Pentecostes know they are a lively group who can at times speak in tongues. They are happier standing up and shouting then sitting down in silence. They love the lord. But, they do it in their own way. They are not your mundane sort. But, they don't have to be. Anyway, my religious outlook is a bit like this. I, like Joyce Meyers, put away my shopping cart. I don't put wet glasses on tables even when I am in hotels. I don't try to run in front of others to get first in line. And, I do practice human/animal/life compassion as much as possible. I lead an ethical life. But, I don't go to a traditional church. Pretty much, my religion is in the bird that sits right outside my back door. He faces the kitchen window when perched on his front door-his bird house. I find spiritual inspiration in the albino deer who suddenly crossed a path not too far from my home. Just like God, she looked at me while grazing and lifted my spirits one morning when I really needed them lifted. My religion is in the social responsibility that I try to display. And, it is in the compassion I see and hope to access from my own heart when I have to walk slowly - letting the gentle-elderly woman who is often outside wishing to talk to a human who might listen - catch up with me. These things are the real stuff of religion to me. Religion is in my heart and it flows outward into the world, my community, my family and even the animals of nature. It is in the deeds.

Like I wrote earlier-I do put away my shopping cart. And, I'll keep doing it too. Joyce Meyers suggested that all Christians should do this. I am grateful for women and men who are strong to teach social responsibilities. But, I am grateful too for the freedom I have to share and practice my own views. I think what I really am wishing to share in this piece of not-so-good writing is this. So many of us are the same regardless of our label. We seek to find goodness in others and ourselves too. We don't aways practice the exact same faith. We call ourselves different things and sometimes argue over different this's-or-that's. But, truthfully-we are pretty good people and pretty much the same in our core.

So even though I am not an every-week-church-goer I do still practice the acts of human compassion and rightness that I should. So, I think I am okay.

I wanted to share this little bit of writing dedicated to those who may not recognize that those of us who might walk a different path-still can be good people-just a little different-but really more the same..

The above article was written almost one year ago when I first found hub pages. I have written many articles since that time. Most of them I have deleated. I decided to leave this one article because it was among my first-and becaue it has a pretty solid, ethical and good lesson behind it. I am Shealy (Sherry) Healy. I am a life coach. When I first found hub pages I did not know how to use them. I had no idea that I am the exact sort of person who can use the hub pages well and attract others to the pages. Now, almost one year after I first wrote this article I am happy to re-read it. I edited just a bit. And, I am still here. Today, I have found that my hubs are helpful to people who might be having a bad day. My hubs are helpful to people who might be depressed, sad, suffering with drug addiction or poor health. I have found that my clients like to join me here on hub pages.
If you are looking for a way to improve your life-stay here. Read through the pages of my hubs. You can expect to find ways and methods that will heal your spirit and heal your life. You will read about alternative healing methods and traditional fitness techniques of transforming youself. After reading if you wish to contact me you can e-mail me at maryandtinsel@comcast.net . Believe me..there are ways that you can be a happier person, you can be healthier, you can create a good relationship. You can do anything that you want to do. And, it can begin here on the hub pages.

I have written a few other hubs now-how to be happy, what is irony, my husband can see through his eyelids....I am a little bit better at writing now...

Nice hub Shealy. Religion is a cop out;however, a personal relationship with the Sovereign of the universe is possible through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. He isn't pushy but loves us and accepts us as we are and waits patiently for us to come to Him in faith.

Guess what-last week at Walmart I did not put away my grocery cart. It was cold and raining. I guess I will put two away the next time I go to Target. I am there quite often...

It was interesting to read the words of someone who thinks about their life and how best to live it as you seem to. Thanks for your post.

Very good article! I too am a non-categorizable religious person. I don't follow any specific religion but rather enjoy being amazed by life and its complexity. Hope all is well!

If you're interested in my religious story, read my article titled "God's Asymptote."

It is heartening reading this article and comments by others who feel the same. I've taught my children to put away carts, try to give the slow or hesitant driver in front of you the benefit of the doubt, and always acknowledge the people who are working to serve you, be it the store clerk, waiter, bagger, etc.

I agree with both you and maplethorpej, I see God's hand in nature and I too enjoy being amazed by life and I thank you for so eloquently expressing these thoughts.

I look forward to reading more.
