Why Would You Read A Self-Help Book? By Shealy (Sherry) Healy

Self Help
This hub is an un-edited portions of Shealy's new book "Confessions of Your Psychic."
I have spent hours standing in an isle at Barnes and Nobles just staring at the self-help books on the shelves.
Once upon a time I actually stood at Barnes and Nobles staring at my own self help book on the shelf. That experience of seeing my own book on the shelf was more healing than any of the hours spent staring at the other self-help books on the shelves.
Write A Book
Later, I spent more productive years staring at the alternative therapy and metaphysical books on the Barnes and Nobel shelves. I actually bought a few of those. Then, I found the public library. My visiting the public library worked out for a while-until I accumulated from them a hefty and large bill. I have returned all the books I have ever borrowed. But, my late fees eventually out-weighed the actual original price of the books. So, after the use of the public library days-I went back to Barnes and Nobles isles for a while.
Then I found the Internet. Internet books (that includes buying and reading them on line) seem to be the most effective for me. If I want to read a new book I can visit my Internet.
I mentioned early in this writing that I enjoyed standing inside Barnes and Nobles and seeing myself on the shelves. That actually happened. My third book was published by a real-life publishing company who forgot to edit my book. What an irony of embarrassment and pride that was. I took the book off the shelves after standing and looking at it for about two months.
Your Favorite Author
So, that brings me to today-why would I ever want to write another self-help book? And, why would you want to read it? If you are at all like me -you will assume that my self-help book like all other self-help books will lead you to either standing hours peering into a local bookstore shelf deciding if you want to spend your hard earned money on pages that will tell you how to be happier-when you might be happier if you actually stop and save your hard earned money. Or, you might end up pondering and deciding to go the public library route. Rent the book. Then, if you don't get it back to the library on time, you will owe more than the retail price of the book. And, that would not be so helpful in the improvement of your life either. Or, you can make the choice not to buy the book at all. Most of the time that would be the best of ideas as most of the self-help books on the shelves today are authored by individuals who either are trying to make a quick buck by slamming together old information that the public has already heard, or by authors who are not quite recovered themselves in some form of real life disorder. And, they hope the writing of their own book will allow them to finally feel competent in the world. These are the authors who will do what I did about ten years ago. You will see them standing in the Barnes and Nobles isles just staring at their own book.
I did mention early in this piece of writing that I went through a time of reading metaphysical books. That time was absolutely the most effective of self-help days. I read and learned a few things. And, after reading all that I thought I wanted to know-I walked into the real world of life. I was pretty young (about 25 years old) and my life began. Really it did.
I won't bore you by telling you my life history. I just hate when authors do that. But, I will tell you that my public career as a reader of real-life stories and my interest in metaphysics began around that time of 25 years of age.
And if I fast forward to today-I can look back and realize this - exactly who I am today can be contributed partially to my early interests in metaphysics. And, this is the answer to the question "Why would you read a self help book?" Not all self-help books are really just self help books. Self-help can come in all forms. And, not all books that do not call themselves self-help books are not self help books.
Shealy's self help book:
My words put down on paper are not intended to be solely self-help. They are entertaining and they contain a lot of your own life experiences. I have been a professional psychic (if that is what you want to call me) since I stopped standing around Barnes and Nobles and researching the work, life and opinions of everyone else. Because I am twice the age of twenty-five now-I have been doing my work for a pretty long time. For that reason alone-I might have something to say.
Shealy's book will be available to the public sometime near 2012. She does have something to say even though she does not enjoy the process of saying it on paper or word processor. The book publisher has not yet been selected. Or, it may better be said-the publisher has not yet selected the book. But, that does not matter-the book will be available to the public in one way or another.
Over the years Shealy has learned a few things that actually do work in creating happiness.
Speak truth-when you manipulate with your words the only person you are fooling is you, stop the negativity, move your body so your body knows you are alive and do what ever you can do to be happy with self and others. Say "yes" more often instead of "no." Look for good not bad. Stop being angry and looking for what others are doing wrong to you all fo the time. And, once in a great while ask yourself this question "What if I am wrong?"
If you do these things every day-you will create happiness.
Unfortunately most of the time-those of us who are not happy-we refuse to do these simple things. Instead-we manipulate with our words, we bath, boil and soak our minds in negativity and condemnation of others and we are too lazy to get up and move the lovely physical bodies God has given to us. Then, we wonder why we are unhealthy of the body and mind, without friends, love and happiness.

Hi Sherry...what is the name of the book? Have you begun writing it?
Thank you, for a great hub, I enjoy reading it. Godspeed. creativeone59
Shealy, your words are always insightful, especially those on your early metaphysical readings. What would be a few of your recommended readings on this subject? I would like to refresh myself without staring blankly at the aisles of self help books, and get right to the essence of the essence!
This was good for self motivation. I support all you said inside this hub. Good work, my friend. Two thumbs up for you.
Good luck with publishing your new book, Shealy. I am working on writing my first one. Not long ago I stood in a bookstore and imagining seeing my book on a shelf. 8o)
Thanks for the great tip..Nice
